##General This stylish hotel maintains a high standard of service and offers a wide range of facilities for those travelling on business or leisure, in groups or individually. All our concierges are knowledgeable and helpful with a wealth of information at their fingertips. The concierges are members of the prestigious Clefs d'Or Assocation, this ensures they have are able to assist with all guests requests and give general information on what to see and do: reservations, tickets to shows, babysitting and all transport arrangements. A well equipped fitness room is open seven days a week and available to all guests. The fitness centre is located on the Mezzanine level of the hotel and is open seven days a week from 7:00 am until 11:00 pm, use of all the facilities is complimentary to hotel guests. The room has a fresh feel with yellow walls and pale wood and there is a comprehensive range of equipment suitable for a complete workout; a treadmill, bicycle, Step Master and strength training machines as well as free weights. The facilities are available 24 hours a day for those in Paris for business. In a charming room on the mezzanine floor, the business centre is available to all guests 24 hours a day, seven days a week and offers Internet access, colour printers and computers with both US and French-style keyboards. History: Built in 1855 and originally located in the building which is now known as the Louvre des Antiquaires, the Hotel du Louvre was the first luxury hotel in France. It was a grand hotel with 700 guestrooms and a large staff of 1,250. Renowned for its French and international cuisine, it was the first hotel to achieve recognition equal to its luxurious counterparts in New York and Switzerland. In 1887 the Louvre area was expanding and so were the major department stores, this meant that the Hotel du Louvre was relocated to the other side of the square where it stands today, enjoying its prime position with each of the four façades offering a different outlook. The Hotel du Louvre has always had a reputation as a hotel of character and it has attracted many discerning guests of social, political and artistic importance. Playing host to important receptions and official functions is part of the hotels rich history. In 1897 the impressionist Camille Pissarro took up residence here and looking from the windows of his rooms, today known as the Pissarro Suite, created several of his great paintings of Paris. Inspired by the atmosphere of the hotel and the area of the Louvre, Arthur Conan Doyle featured the Hotel du Louvre in many of his stories about Sherlock Holmes and this is remembered by the many Sherlock Holmes associations who gather regularly at the hotel today. In 1910, Sigmund Freud visited the hotel several times whilst writing Un Souvenir d'Enfance de Léonard de Vinci, his thesis on the childhood of Leonardo, one of the greatest artists of all time. A major theme is Freud's interpretation of the smile of Mona Lisa ? otherwise known as La Gioconda or La Joconde ? arguably the most famous painting in the world and displayed in the Louvre Museum, directly opposite the hotel. ##Location This stylish and elegant boutique hotel stands at the heart of Paris culture and arts. Bathrooms are white tiled with marble surfaces. Deluxe Rooms: Stylish and spacious with a reading area comprising two chairs and a table with workspace. King sized bed or can be two singles. Non smoking rooms are available. These luxurious rooms are spacious and welcoming. Natural light streams through the double windows that look out over the many cultural sights surrounding the hotel. Warm colour combinations of red and yellow create a contemporary feel, or bold florals combined with pale wood for a more traditional Parisian atmosphere. The comfortable chairs and a low table create a reading area and there is room to work at the desk. Bathrooms are light and airy with fresh colour combinations of yellow and white tiles or pale marble. The Junior suites are elegant and each one is unique. Some are traditional Second Empire style with floral drapes in shades of blue combined with pale walls, others are contemporary style and mix luxurious fabrics such as taffeta and velvet in warm colours with dark wood and ambient lighting. The large bedroom combines a sitting room with a sofa and two chairs and a spacious work area. A few of these suites face the Louvre Museum and the floor to ceiling windows offer privileged views of the exhibits. Pale marble bathrooms have most of the time bath and shower with double sink and a separate WC. For true luxury in such a distinctive location, the suites are the epitome of Parisian living and offer magical views from every window. Contemporary style furnishings that retain a traditional feel offer comfort and indulgence and there is plenty of room for those enjoying a longer stay. A large bedroom with a desk and workspace leads to a separate sitting room with fine furniture and a sofa and chairs. The fresh and light bathroom is finished in pale marble and has most of the time a separate shower and bath. For some of these Suites, a walk in dressing room completes a generous space that is both lavish and functional. An opportunity to be immersed in the colourful history of the hotel, and appreciate the outlook that so inspired the artist Pissarro to paint his impressionist views of Paris from any one of the six floor to ceiling windows that grace this suite. The room colours are inspired by his paintings with soft grey walls, warm tones of amber and lush taffeta drapes. There are two large bathrooms: one with a Jacuzzi and one with an Hammam. Uninterrupted views of the Opera Garnier from the Jacuzzi allow you to lie in the bath and marvel at one of the scenes that inspired Pissarro to paint this and other pieces hanging on the walls throughout the suite. A well furnished and separate sitting room, large bedroom and walk in dressing room as well as a separate shower room, make a stay in this very special suite a truly luxurious and unique experience. ##Exterior The Hotel du Louvre stands in the heart of old Paris. A culturally rich location with easy access to the fashion and business districts. Step from the Brasserie du Louvre and immediately opposite is the Comédie Française, the Louvre Museum is so close that exhibits can be observed from the windows in some of the rooms and suites! The Opera Garnier is set to one side of the hotel and the Palais Royal to the other. The area is busy with many brasseries and cafes and it is just a few minutes walk to Galeries Lafayette and the sophisticated boutiques of the Rue St Honoré. Directions & Map: From the Airport: From Charles de Gaulle airport a taxi journey should take approximately 45 minutes and the charge should be in the region of ?60, depending on traffic. Alternatively, for ?8 and a journey time of approximately 1 hour, the Roissybus runs between the airport and Opera station, a 5-10 minute walk or short metro ride from the hotel. Orly Airport is approximately 35 minutes by taxi (in the region of ?40). Public transport options are available but they are not straightforward, first-time visitors to Paris would find them complicated. By Train: From the mainline train station Gare de Nord, it is a short taxi ride (approximately ?10) or a 20 minute journey on the metro: using lines 4 and 1 to Palais Royal Musée du Louvre, immediately outside the hotel. From Gare de Lyon it is a 15 minute metro journey using line 1 directly to Palais Royal Musée du Louvre. Gare Montparnasse is also straightforward, using metro lines 12 and 1 to Palais Royal Musée du Louvre. By Metro: The Palais Royal Musée du Louvre station (line 1 and 7) is on the doorstep of the hotel allowing easy access to any destination throughout the city. Car Parking: Parking close to the hotel at Pyramides, Louvre Museum and Louvre des Antiquaires. ##Lobby The Hotel du Louvre is a perfect location for those wishing to organise private business meetings, for product launches or for family gatherings and gala dinners. The meeting rooms have a luxurious and warm feel and are all well equipped with the latest in modern technology. There are eight private rooms, seven are located on the mezzanine floor and the largest, The Rohan Salon, is located on the ground floor. They range in size from 194 square feet to 1464 square feet and all have air conditioning and high speed Internet access. The largest of the meeting rooms is the Rohan Salon and is located on the ground floor of the hotel. The Cézanne is a good sized room on the mezzanine level. There is lots of natural daylight, the walls are painted a soft yellow with a marbled effect and there are red drapes and a deep red carpet. The Sisley is located on the mezzanine level and can be connected with the Degas Room to create a larger space. There is plenty of natural light that streams in through four large windows that offer views of the Louvre Museum. A smaller room with large windows offering lots of natural daylight, the Degas Room can be connected to the Sisley. The Matisse has views across to the Louvre Museum and is decorated with photos by Joachim Bonnemaison. The Toulouse Lautrec, the Monet and the Corot room have a warm feel and plenty of natural daylight. The stunning views look across to the Comédie Française. ##Restaurant Brasserie du Louvre offers typical French cuisine in an exceptional location with a bustling atmosphere. The Defender Bar allows cosy relaxation and is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet drink, light lunch or afternoon tea. Brasserie du Louvre: Executive Chef Mehdi Corthier presents a creative menu that offers traditional French dishes and seafood. A bright and lively brasserie with pale yellow walls and dark wood with gold fittings, Brasserie du Louvre has a typical Parisian atmosphere. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served daily. Traditional French cuisine with seasonal variations and a menu that changes monthly is created by Executive Chef Mehdi Corthier. The a la carte menu features fresh seafood and regional specialities. During the summertime the terrace is filled with flowers and it is possible to sit and enjoy the view from the Place de Palais Royal across to the Comédie Française and the Louvre Museum. Defender Bar: A favourite meeting place for local Parisians and those who wish to try the impressive and ever changing cocktail menu. This intimate bar sits at the very heart of the hotel, sumptuously furnished with rich red velvet and dark wood elegantly inspired by the style of Napoleon III.
